Whip It Whipped Cream Maker

To say I am addicted to kitchen gadgets would be an understatement.  My dream would be a huge kitchen like the super rich have and untold amounts of storage space as well as pantry space.  I would fill it up with every useful gadget I could get my hands on.

Unfortunately, I, like most people are not rich, and I don’t have a huge kitchen either, but I make do.  I still manage to get my fair share of gadgets and this has forced me to come up with creative storage solutions!

I have wanted a Whipped Cream Maker for about as long as I can remember.  Sure, I can go to the store and by real whipped cream in a can, but it is expensive, and you are limited because you can’t change the amount or type of sweetener, nor can you change the flavor of it.

The Whip It is actually a dream come true for someone like me.  It is super simple to use and you can make whipped cream exactly the way you want.  You simply add 500ml of 35% (heavy) cream, sweetener if you like (I like to add a bit of confectioners/icing suger) and flavoring if desired and coloring.  You can add a couple drops of food coloring and some caramel flavoring to top a caramel flavored desert, or a couple drops of red food coloring and strawberry flavoring to top a bowl of sliced strawberries.  The choices are endless.

After you add the ingredients it’s just a matter of replacing the top, adding an N2O cartridge and screwing it on, giving it a few shakes and you have instant whipped cream.  It is not over whipped, it is stabilized and perfect.  The N2O is what bonds with the cream and stabilizes it.  If you don’t know what N2O is, it’s actually Nitrous Oxide, more commonly known as laughing gas.  N2O not only fluffs up our whipped cream, it inhibits bacteria from growing.  So when you make up a can of whipped cream, it will last as long as the “Use by” date on the original cream container which is often a couple of weeks or more.

Having whipped cream on hand makes it easy to add a little dollop of cream to make even the most simple desserts like jello or pudding extra special.

White Noise Machine

Falling asleep made easy

While I generally don’t have a problem falling asleep I usually wake numerous times during the night, and sometimes I just can’t get back to sleep because my brain won’t turn off.  I will start worrying about everything I have to do the next day, worry about this or that and before you know it I’ve been awake for a couple of hours and that means I will wake up tired and who wants to start the day like that?

Now I have heard of white noise and the benefits but I wasn’t sure it was for me.  I was intrigued by this noise machine because it has so many different choices.  You can choose between White Noise, Rain, Birds, Brook, Lullaby 1, Lullaby 2, Ocean ,Thunderstorm.

My personal favorite is Thunderstorm.  When there is a wicked storm pounding down outside my window I sleep like a baby and the white noise machine gives me that same feeling.  Other features include an alarm clock, a timer to have shut down the white noise after so many hours, date and time.  This is a great way to help yourself or the little one’s in the house get some sleep so they can remain well rested.

Laser Infrared Thermometer

Everyone needs one!

Believe it or not Infrared laser thermometers could be an incredible asset to have.  At first you might not think you need one, but trust me you do.  So below is a list of just a few of the things you can with it.

• Fridge and freezers control their temperature by numbers, 1-10 or something like that, not actual temperature.  Guidelines for keeping your food the freshest are always listed in degrees.  If you use an laser thermometer it can instantly tell you if your fridge and freezer temperatures need adjusting.  This can save you money as food will not spoil as fast if kept at recommended temperatures.
• You can test your oven temperatures to make sure your oven thermometer is accurate.  Overcooked or under cooked food is a waste.  If your oven temperature is off and you have digital controls on your oven you can set it to compensate for the inaccuracy.
• You can go around your house and see where the energy leaks are and if you have numerous areas, but limited funds to fix, you can see which one is the worst offender using the laser thermometer and do that one first.
• Many BBQ’s have thermostats on them, but I have yet to find one that still worked or was accurate.  Use the laser thermometer to find out the exact temperature.
• Double check bath water for children to make sure it isn’t too hot.  I use the wrist method, but this thermometer can confirm it is within acceptable levels for children.
• Check outdoor play equipment for temperature to make sure children don’t burn themselves on metal slides etc.
• Check interior car temperatures.
• Check the temperature of food you are taking out of the microwave or oven to see if it is hot enough.
• Even if your thermostat is set to a certain temperature it doesn’t mean every room in the house will be that temp.  You can go around and check to see if you need to provide supplemental heat or cooling to those rooms.

As you can see the list is just about endless.  This thermometer registers a temperature instantly and is highly accurate and has an extremely wide temperature range, so wide that you can check anything you should encounter in everyday life, no matter how hot or cold.

All this for less than what we pay for our family to have pizza delivered.

Newton’s Cradle

The first time I saw a Newton’s Cradle was in physics class and I have loved them every since.  I have seen many variations of them and this particular one is very nice indeed.  It has a modern flair to it, yet it is simple in design.

This Newton’s Cradle works very well and you can use it with 1, 2, 3, or 4 balls and they all work as they should.  These make great gifts for people with new offices, teachers, people with modern decor or people who are just hard to buy for.  They would even be a great gift to children to teach them the physics behind the cradle.
